Performance Review – Indices (May 2020)
Without steel bars:
The performance of BCI in Peninsular Malaysia showed an increase between 0.1 and 0.5 per cent in region B (Perak), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan), E (Pahang) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan). Meanwhile, the BCI in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) decreased 0.1 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) and (R.C.) Piling. The BCI in region D (Johor) decreased between 0.2 and 0.3 per cent for almost all building categories.
In contrast, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau for almost all building categories increased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent except for Single storey steel frame (Tower only) which decreased by 0.2 per cent in Kota Kinabalu. The BCI in Sandakan also fell between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all categories of building except for 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation).
Other than that, the performance of BCI in Sarawak showed a decrease by 0.1 per cent for Single storey steel frame (building) in Kuching. Meanwhile, the BCI in Miri increased 0.1 per cent for almost all building categories.
With steel bars:
The performance of BCI in Peninsular Malaysia declined between 0.1 and 1.0 per cent for almost all building categories in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), D (Johor) and E (Pahang). However, the performance of BCI in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) edged up between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all categories of building.
In Sabah, a decline of BCI between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent occurred in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan for almost all building categories. Meanwhile, the BCI in Tawau increased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all building categories.
The BCI in Kuching and Sibu decreased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent for almost all building categories. Meanwhile, the BCI in Miri increased 0.1 per cent for almost all building categories.
Changes in Unit Price Indices (May 2020)
The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
