Performance Review – Indices (March 2020)
Without steel bars:
As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) increased 0.1 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof), 5 Storey & above (R.C.) building (for office) and (R.C.) Piling. Meanwhile, the BCI in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) for almost all building categories edged up between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent. The BCI in region E (Pahang) climbed up between 1.0 & 1.5 per cent for almost categories of building and only Single storey (R.C.) building in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased 0.1 per cent, as compared to the previous month.
The BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased between 0.1 and 0.8 per cent for almost all building categories. However, the BCI in Sandakan and Tawau fell between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all categories of building, as compared to the previous month.
The BCI in Kuching and Miri declined between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all categories of building. In contrast, the BCI in Sibu showed an increase for almost all building categories which is between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent.
With steel bars:
The BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) increased 0.1 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (flat roof), 5 Storey & above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) and (R.C.) Piling. Meanwhile, the BCI in region B (Perak) rose between 0.3 and 0.6 per cent for almost all building categories. In region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan), the BCI for 5 Storey & above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) decreased 0.1 per cent. The BCI in region E (Pahang) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) edged up between 0.2 and 1.0 per cent for almost all building categories.
The BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased between 0.1 and 0.9 per cent for almost all building categories. The BCI in Sandakan and Tawau fell between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all categories of building except for (R.C.) piling in Sandakan increased 0.3 per cent.
In Sarawak, the BCI in Kuching and Sibu showed an increase for almost all building categories which is between 0.1 and 0.5 per cent. In contrast, the BCI in Miri decreased between 0.1 and 0.5 per cent for almost all building categories as compared to the previous month.
Changes in Unit Price Indices (March 2020)
The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
