Performance Review – Indices (January 2020)
Without steel bars:
As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.1 and 1.6 per cent for almost all categories of building.
In Sabah, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent for almost all categories of building. However, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu for Single storey steel frame (building) and Single storey steel frame (tower only) decreased 0.5 and 0.9 per cent respectively as compared to the previous month.
On the other hand, the BCI in Kuching and Sibu decreased between 0.1 and 0.8 per cent for almost all categories of building.
With steel bars:
The BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.1 and 1.4 per cent for almost all categories of building.
The BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased between 0.4 and 1.2 per cent for almost all categories of building except for Single storey steel frame (building) and Single storey steel frame (tower only) which decreased 0.4 and 0.9 per cent respectively as compared to the previous month. However, the BCI in Sandakan increased between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent for almost all categories of building except for 5-storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) and (R.C.) piling where each decreased by 0.1 and 0.3 per cent. The BCI in Tawau increased 0.1 per cent for almost all categories of building.
In Sarawak, the BCI in Kuching and Sibu showed a decline for almost all categories of building which is between 0.1 and 0.8 per cent.
Changes in Unit Price Indices (January 2020)
The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
