Performance Review – Indices (April 2020)
Without steel bars:
The performance of BCI (without steel bars) in Peninsular Malaysia for April 2020 showed an increase between 0.1 and 0.9 per cent. The BCI in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) increased 0.1 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) and (R.C.) Piling. On the other hand, the BCI in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased 0.1 per cent for 5 Storey & above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) only.
In contrast, The BCI in Kota Kinabalu for almost all building categories decreased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent as compared to the previous month. The decline of 0.1 per cent occurred in 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (flat roof), 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof) and 5 Storey & above (R.C.) building (for office). Meanwhile, the BCI for (R.C.) Piling decreased 0.4 per cent.
Other than that, the BCI in Miri declined 0.1 per cent for almost all categories of building except for Timber building, (R.C.) Piling and Single storey steel frame (building).
With steel bars:
The performance of BCI (with steel bars) in Peninsular Malaysia increased between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all building categories. The BCI in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and region D (Johor) edged up between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all categories of building. Meanwhile, the BCI in region B (Perak) and region E (Pahang) recorded an increase between 0.2 and 0.6 for almost all building categories.
As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Miri decreased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all building categories.
Changes in Unit Price Indices (April 2020)
The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
