Performance Review – Indices (February 2020)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and D (Johor) increased between 0.1 and 1.6 per cent while the BCI in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) decreased between 0.2 and 0.4 per cent for almost all categories of building.

The BCI in Kuching and Miri edged up between 0.1 and 1.0 per cent for almost all categories of building. However, the BCI in Sibu showed a slight decrease for almost all building categories which is between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent.

With steel bars:

The BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and D (Johor) increased between 0.2 and 1.4 per cent but dropped between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) for almost all categories of building.

In Sarawak, the BCI in Kuching and Miri showed an increase for almost all building categories which is between 0.1 and 0.8 per cent. The BCI in Sibu remained as in the previous month except for Single storey (R.C.) building and Timber building which decrease by 0.1 and
0.2 per cent respectively.

Changes in Unit Price Indices (February 2020)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
