Performance Review – Indices (December 2019)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.2 and 0.7 per cent for almost all categories of building. Meanwhile, in region E (Pahang), the BCI increased 0.1 per cent for Timber building and decreased 0.1 per cent for three building categories which are 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof), 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) and 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office).

In Sabah, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu decreased 0.3 per cent for Single storey steel frame (building) and 0.5 per cent for Single storey steel frame (tower only). The BCI in Sandakan and Tawau showed no changes as compared to the previous month.

On the other hand, the BCI in Kuching and Sibu increased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all categories of building.

With steel bars:

The BCI in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) and C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) for almost all categories of building increased between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent as compared to the previous month. In region E (Pahang), the BCI increased 0.1 per cent for Timber building only. In region B (Perak) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan), the BCI decreased between 0.1 and 0.9 per cent for almost all categories of building except for (R.C.) Piling in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) which increased 0.2 per cent.

The BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan decreased between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all categories of building.

In Sarawak, the BCI in Kuching and Sibu showed a decline for almost all categories of building which is between 0.1 and 0.8 per cent. However, the BCI for Single storey steel frame (building) in Kuching and Timber building in Sibu increased 0.2 per cent as compared to the previous month.

 

Changes in Unit Price Indices (December 2019)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
