Perfomance Review – Indices (October 2019)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) decreased between 0.3 and 0.5 per cent for almost all categories of building. In region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan), the BCI decreased 0.1 per cent for three building categories which are 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof), 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) and 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office). Meanwhile in region E (Pahang), the BCI decreased 0.1 per cent for (R.C.) piling. The BCI in region B (Perak) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.3 and 0.4 per cent for almost all categories of building.

The BCI in Sabah increased between 0.1 to 2.6 per cent in Kota Kinabalu and decreased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent in Sandakan for almost all categories of building.

On the other hand, the BCI in Kuching and Miri declined between 0.1 and 1.3 per cent for almost all categories of building.

With steel bars:

The BCI in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) and B (Perak) for almost all categories of building decreased between 0.3 and 1.3 per cent compared to the previous month. The BCI for 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof) decreased 0.1 per cent in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and E (Pahang). (R.C.) Piling also decreased by 0.1 per cent in region E (Pahang). Meanwhile, the BCI in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.3 and 0.4 per cent for almost all categories of building.

Overall, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased between 0.1 and 1.2 per cent. The BCI in Sandakan and Tawau decreased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent for almost all categories of building. However, the BCI for single storey steel frame (building) decreased 0.1 per cent in Kota Kinabalu but increased 0.3 per cent in Sandakan. Single storey steel frame (tower only) decreased 0.4 per cent in Kota Kinabalu but increased 0.5 per cent in Sandakan.

The BCI in Sarawak showed a decline in all regions which is between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent (Kuching), between 0.1 and 0.9 per cent (Sibu) and between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent (Miri) for almost all categories of building.

 

Changes in Unit Price Indices (October 2019)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
