Peninsular Malaysia

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for almost all categories of building in all regions increased between 0.1 and 0.8 per cent in June 2019 as compared to the previous month. However, the BCI (without steel bars) in region B (Perak) for Single storey (R.C.) building, 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) and 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) decreased 0.1 per cent respectively as compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, BCI (with steel bars) in region E (Pahang) for almost all categories of building decreased between 0.1 and 1.1 per cent except Timber building (0.6 per cent) and (R.C) piling (0.7 per cent).

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by regions in Peninsular Malaysia are shown in Table 1.

Sabah

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for all categories of building in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau increased between 0.1 and 0.7 per cent in June 2019 as compared to the previous month.

The BCI (with steel bars) for almost all categories of building in Tawau increased between 0.1 and 0.7 per cent in June as compared to the previous month. In contrast, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan decreased between 0.1 and 0.9 per cent as compared to the previous month except Timber building (0.4 per cent) and (R.C.) piling (0.7 per cent).

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Sabah are shown in Table 2.

Sarawak

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all categories of building in Kuching and Miri decreased between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent in June 2019. While, the BCI (with steel bars) in Sibu for Single storey (R.C.) building, 5 storey and above building (for accommodation) and (R.C.) Piling increased by 0.1 per cent as compared to the previous month.   

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Sarawak are shown in Table 3.
