Peninsular Malaysia
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all building categories in all regions showed increases in September 2015 as compared to the previous month. However, the BCI (with steel bars) for (R.C.) piling category in region A-Northern and B-Perak declined respectively by 0.1 and 0.3 per cent compared to the previous month.
The unit price index of building materials that showed changes as compared to the previous month is shown in Table 1.
Sabah
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for certain categories of building in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau indicate changes as compared to the August 2015.
The BCI (with steel bars) for all building categories in Kota Kinabalu showed decreases as compared to August 2015. In Sandakan, only 5 storey and above (for accommodation) recorded an increase of 0.1 per cent. Meanwhile, some of buildings in Tawau posted increases of 0.1 to 0.2 per cent as compared to the previous month.
Changes in unit price index for building materials by region in Sabah are shown below:
Sarawak
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for several building categories in Sarawak recorded changes of 0.1 per cent as compared to August 2015. The BCI for 5 storey and above (for accommodation) and single storey steel frame (building) in Kuching as well as the BCI for single storey (R.C.) building in Miri registered a decrease by 0.1 per cent. On the other hand, the BCI for 5 storey and above (for office) in Sibu increased by 0.1 per cent.
The BCI (with steel bars) for almost all building categories in Kuching showed decreases except for timber building category which remained unchanged as compared to the previous month. In Sibu, the BCI for single storey steel frame (building) posted an increase of 0.1 per cent. While, in Miri, only single storey (R.C.) building showed a decrease by 0.1 per cent as compared to August 2015.
