Peninsular Malaysia
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all building categories of Peninsular Malaysia posted increases in May 2015 as compared to the previous month.
The unit price index for timber showed an increase of 1.0 points in all regions as compared to April 2015.
The unit price index of other building materials showed an increase in almost all regions in Peninsular Malaysia except for some building materials which remained unchanged and experienced decreases. Building materials which experienced decreases of unit price index were ceiling materials in region F-Eastern (-0.5 points); sanitary fittings in region B-Perak (-0.3 points); glass in region A-Northern (-0.4 points); paints in region A-Northern (-1.4 points) and E-Pahang (-1.3 points).
Sabah
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in May 2015 for several building categories in Sabah recorded increases as compared to April 2015.
The BCI (without steel bars) which showed increases of 0.1 per cent were single storey (R.C.) building in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau; 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau; 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) in Sandakan and 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.
Meanwhile BCI (with steel bars) which showed increases of 0.1 per cent were single storey (R.C.) building in Kota Kinabalu; 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof) in all regions; 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan; and 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) in Kota Kinabalu.
However, the BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) for single storey steel frame (building) and single storey steel frame (tower only) in Kota Kinabalu showed a decrease compared to the previous month.
Changes in unit price index for building materials by regions in Sabah are shown in Table 1.
Sarawak
The BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Kuching and Miri registered increases for all building categories as compared to April 2015.
However, the BCI (with steel bars) in Sibu showed decreases for 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof) and (R.C.) piling as compared to the previous month. The BCI (without steel bars) for (R.C.) piling in Sibu also cited a decrease in the same period.
Changes in unit price index for building materials by regions in Sarawak are shown in Table 2.
