Peninsular Malaysia
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all building categories of Peninsular Malaysia showed increases in March 2015 as compared to the previous month.
The unit price index for timber showed an increase of 0.9 points in all regions as compared to February 2015.
The unit price index of building materials that showed changes as compared to the previous month were sand at region B (2.1 points), D (0.6 points) and F (1.5 points); bricks & wall at region B (0.7 points) and D (-0.2 points); ceiling materials at region B (0.2 points); steel & metal sections at region D (-0.3 points); sanitary fittings at region A (0.1 points), C (1.3 points) and D (0.2 points); paints at region C (0.1 points), E (-0.1 points) and F (0.9 points).
The unit price indices for structural steel in Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.
Sabah
The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all building categories in Tawau remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.
In Sandakan, BCI (without steel bars) for building category of 2-4 storey (R.C) building (pitched roof) showed an increase of 0.1 per cent. While BCI (with steel bars) increased by 0.1 per cent for building categories of 2-4 storey (R.C) building (pitched roof), 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for accommodation) and single storey steel frame (building).
The BCI (without steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu decreased by 0.1 per cent for building categories of 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for office), single storey steel frame (building) and single storey steel frame (tower only). Meanwhile the BCI (with steel bars) for single storey steel frame (tower only) in Kota Kinabalu showed a decrease of 0.2 per cent.
The unit price index that showed changes in Sabah were steel & metal sections at Kota Kinabalu (-0.2 points); plumbing materials and sanitary fittings at Sandakan which increased by 1.1 points and 0.4 points respectively.
Sarawak
The BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Kuching increased for almost all building categories. However, the BCI in Miri showed negative changes for almost all building categories except for timber building (with steel bars) which experienced an increase by 0.1 per cent.
However, the BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Sibu remained unchanged for all building categories compared to the previous month.
The unit price index of building materials that showed changes in Kuching as compared to the previous month were steel & metal sections (-0.5 points); floor & wall tiles (2.3 points); sanitary fittings (2.4 points) and paints (0.1 points). In Miri, the unit price index that showed changes were roofing materials (0.5 points); steel & metal sections (-0.2 points); floor & wall tiles (1.0 points) and ready mix concrete (-2.7 points).
