Peninsular Malaysia
Overall, the Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all building categories of Peninsular Malaysia in January 2015 showed positive movements except for (R.C.) Piling in region D-Johor.
The unit price indices for timber and plywood in all regions remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.
The unit price indices of building materials index which experience changes are aggregates at region C-Central (0.7 points); sand at region D-Johor (0.6 points), bricks & wall at region F- Eastern (0.2 points); steel and metal sections at region B-Perak (0.1 points), C-Central (-0.2 points) and D-Johor (0.5 points); plumbing materials at region F- Eastern (0.3 points); floor and wall tiles at region C-Central (-0.4 points) and F- Eastern (0.2 points); sanitary fittings at region A-Northern (1.1 points) and D-Johor (0.7 points); paints at region A-Northern (0.6 points), C-Central (0.5 points), D-Johor (0.6 points) and F- Eastern (0.1 points).
Sabah
Most of the BCI (without steel bars) in Sabah remained unchanged except for some building categories in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan which recorded increases by 0.1 per cent.
The BCI (with steel bars) in Tawau remained unchanged as compared to the previous month. The BCI in Kota Kinabalu recorded an increase of 0.1 per cent for building categories of 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for accommodation), timber building and single storey steel frame (tower only). Meanwhile, the BCI for single storey (R.C) building, 2-4 storey (R.C) building (flat roof), 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for office) and (R.C) piling in Sandakan showed a negative changes.
The unit price index in Kota Kinabalu which showed increases are steel & metal sections (0.1 points), plumbing materials (0.5 points) and sanitary fittings (0.3 points). While the unit price index in Sandakan which showed increases in January 2015 were plumbing materials (0.3 points), floor & wall tiles (0.1 points), sanitary fittings (0.2 points) and paints (0.2 points).
Sarawak
Overall, the BCI (without steel bars) in Kuching remained unchanged. Meanwhile, the BCI in Miri experienced an increase of 0.1 per cent for four building categories which comprises of 2-4 storey (R.C) building (flat roof), 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for accommodation), 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for office) and single storey steel frame (building). On the other hand, the BCI in Sibu for most building categories showed negative changes.
The BCI (with steel bars) in Sibu recorded negative movement in most building categories. However, the BCI for 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) and timber building increased by 0.1 per cent respectively in Kuching.
The unit price index that recorded changes in Sibu were bricks & wall (-0.1 points); steel & metal section (-1.3 points); floor & wall tiles (1.7 points); paints (0.7 points) and ready mix concrete (-1.1 points). The other changes are glass at Miri (0.2 points) and paints at Kuching (0.1 points).
