Peninsular Malaysia

Overall, the Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for all building categories of Peninsular Malaysia recorded decreases in February 2015 as compared to the previous month except for (R.C) piling category at regions B-Perak and F-Eastern which increased by 0.2 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively.

The unit price indices for timber showed a decrease of 1.2 points in all regions compared to January 2015.

Other changes in unit price index were observed for aggregates at region D-Johor (-0.9 points); roofing materials at region B-Perak (-0.4 points); paints at region     A-Northern (0.1 points),  C-Central (0.2 points) and F-Eastern (-0.4 points); sand at region B-Perak (4.4 points), C-Central (0.3 points) and D-Johor (0.2 points); plumbing materials at region C-Central (-0.2 points); floor & wall tiles at region D-Johor (0.4 points); sanitary fittings at region D-Johor (0.2 points) and F-Eastern   (1.3 points); and steel & metal sections at region A-Northern (-0.7 points), B-Perak (-0.1 points) and C-Central (-0.3 points).

 

Sabah

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau remained unchanged. However, some building categories in Sandakan recorded increases by 0.1 per cent.  

The   BCI   (without steel bars)   in   Sandakan  increased  by  0.1  per cent  for  building  categories  of  single  storey  (R.C)   building; 2-4   storey  (R.C)  building  (flat roof); 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for accommodation); and 5 storey and above (R.C) building (for office) respectively. Meanwhile the BCI (with steel bar) increased at the same pace for building categories of single storey (R.C) building, 2-4 storey (R.C) building (flat roof) and timber building.

The unit price index that showed changes in Sabah were aggregates at Kota Kinabalu (0.7 points), while plumbing materials, sanitary fittings and paints at Sandakan which increased by 1.1, 0.4 and 0.4 points respectively.

 

Sarawak

The BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Kuching and Sibu showed positive changes for almost all building categories except for (R.C) piling in Kuching which decreased by 0.1 per cent.

However, the BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Miri recorded negative movement for most building categories.

The unit price index which showed changes in Kuching were steel & metal sections (-0.1 points); floor & wall tiles (2.6 points); sanitary fittings (-0.2 points); and paints (0.1 points). In Miri, the unit price index which showed changes were steel & metal sections (-0.7 points); and floor & wall tiles (1.3 points).
