Performance Review – Indices (July 2020)

Without steel bars:

The performance of BCI in Peninsular Malaysia showed an increase between 0.1 and 0.5 per cent for almost all building categories in all regions except for region B (Perak) and region D (Johor). In Perak, a decrease of BCI by 0.1 per cent occurred in Timber building. However, in Johor, the BCI remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.

In addition, in Sabah, the BCI in Sandakan for almost all building categories decreased between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent. In contrast, the BCI in Tawau increased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all categories of building. The BCI in Kota Kinabalu remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.

The performance of BCI in Sarawak showed an increase of 0.1 per cent for Single storey (R.C.) building in Kuching. Meanwhile, the BCI in Sibu and Miri remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.

With steel bars:

In Sabah, the BCI decreased by 0.1 per cent for Single storey steel frame (Tower only) in Kota Kinabalu. Meanwhile, the BCI in Sandakan and Tawau decreased between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI in Kuching decreased 0.1 per cent for almost all building categories. Meanwhile, the BCI in Sibu and Miri remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.

Changes in Unit Price Indices (July 2020)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
