Performance Review – Indices (August 2020)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A, (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), D (Johor) and E (Pahang) remained unchanged as in the previous month. The BCI in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) decreased 0.5 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) building (Pitched roof) and increased 0.1 per cent for (R.C.) Piling. Meanwhile, the BCI in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.1 and 0.3 per cent for almost all categories of building.

The BCI in Kota Kinabalu decreased 0.1 per cent for Single storey steel frame (Tower only). The BCI in Sandakan also decreased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent while the BCI in Tawau increased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI in Kuching decreased 0.1 per cent for Single storey (R.C.) building. The BCI in Miri declined between 0.2 and 1.0 per cent for almost all categories of building while the BCI in Sibu remained unchanged as in the previous month.

With steel bars:

Meanwhile, the BCI in region F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased 0.1 per cent for Single storey (R.C.) building and decreased 0.1 per cent for (R.C.) Piling.

The BCI in Kota Kinabalu decreased 0.1 per cent for Single storey steel frame (Building). The BCI in Sandakan also decreased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent while the BCI in Tawau increased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI in Kuching decreased 0.1 per cent for Timber building. The BCI in Sibu and Miri edged down between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all categories of building.

Changes in Unit Price Indices (August 2020)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
