Performance Review – Indices (October 2020)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), D (Johor) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased 0.1 per cent for almost all categories of building. However, the BCI in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and E (Pahang) remained unchanged as in the previous month.

The BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased 0.4 per cent for Single storey steel frame (Building) and 0.8 per cent for Single storey steel frame (Tower only). The BCI in Sandakan also increased 0.1 per cent for almost all building categories. Meanwhile, the BCI in Tawau remained unchanged as in the previous month.

The BCI in Kuching and Miri increased between 0.1 and 0.4 per cent for almost all building categories. The BCI in Sibu remained unchanged as in the previous month.

With steel bars:

The BCI in Peninsular Malaysia for region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), B (Perak), E (Pahang) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.1 and 0.6 per cent for almost all categories of building. The BCI in region D (Johor) increased 0.1 per cent for (R.C.) Piling only. The BCI in region C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) remained unchanged as in the previous month.

The BCI in Sabah increased between 0.1 and 2.1 per cent for almost all building categories. However, Single storey steel frame (Tower only) decreased 0.8 per cent in Kota Kinabalu.

The BCI in Kuching and Miri increased between 0.2 and 0.5 per cent for almost all building categories. The BCI in Sibu remained unchanged as in the previous month.

Changes in Unit Price Indices (October 2020)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region throughout Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
