Overview
1. PRODUCTION
Production of natural rubber (NR) in November 2015 was recorded at 51,146 tonnes, dropped by 20,243 tonnes (-28.4%) as compared to October 2015. Year-on-year also showed a decrease in rubber production by 1,587 tonnes (-3.0%). The main contributor of NR is smallholding sector of 92.1 per cent while the rest from the estate sector. Month-on-month, both of smallholding and estate sectors recorded a decrease in production at 28.2 per cent and 30.7 per cent respectively.
2. EXPORTS
A total of 45,259 tonnes of NR was exported in November 2015. Total exports of NR dropped by 10,139 tonnes (-18.3%) from a month ago and 1,166 tonnes (-2.5%) from a year ago. Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) contributes 94.5 per cent from the total exports where 65.1 per cent is S.M.R. 20.
The main destination for exports of NR were the People’s Rep. of China (52.1%), followed by Germany (11.0%), Islamic Rep. of Iran (6.5%), U.S.A. (3.7%), Finland (3.6%), Turkey (3.5%), France (2.2%), Brazil (1.5%) and Rep. of Korea (1.4%).
3. IMPORTS
The total imports of NR in November 2015 amounted to 91,110 tonnes. Imports increased by 7,185 tonnes (+8.6%) from October 2015 and 10,653 tonnes (+13.2%) from November 2014. The main type of NR imported in this month was Standard Rubber (38.6%) and Latex Concentrate (27.4%).
NR was mainly imported from Thailand and Viet Nam at 47.1 per cent and 22.7 per cent respectively.
4. DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION
Domestic consumption of NR in November 2015 was 39,651 tonnes, dropped by 2,262 tonnes (-5.4%) from October 2015. However, when compared to November 2014, the domestic consumption of NR showed an increase of 958 tonnes (+2.5%).
Rubber gloves industry is the largest NR consumer at 29,910 tonnes (75.4%), followed by tyre & tubes (8.0%) and rubber thread (7.3%). These three industries consumed 35,996 tonnes (90.7%) of NR.
5. STOCKS
The level of stocks held at the end of November 2015 was recorded at 144,367 tonnes, dropped 3,495 tonnes (-2.4%) from the level of stocks held in the previous month. Nevertheless, year-over-year comparison has increased by 7.6 percent. Rubber Processors remain as the biggest contributor in the NR stocks (87.1%).
6. AVERAGE MONTHLY PRICE PER KILOGRAMME

The average monthly price of NR in November 2015 fell lower than the previous months. The average price of latex concentrate decreased by 28.48 sen (-7.1%) to 375.45 sen as compared to October 2015 and dropped by 21.68 sen (-5.5%) from November 2014.
The average monthly price of S.M.R 20 was recorded at 500.15 sen pKIer kilogramme, decreased by 28.92 sen (-5.5%) when compared to month-on-month and 3.40 sen (-0.7%) for year-on-year.
7. EMPLOYMENT
At the end of November 2015, a total of 11,741 persons were engaged in rubber estates where 11,737 were paid employees with salaries & wages amounting to RM14.9 million. The number of paid employees reduced by 0.3 per cent from the previous month and 4.9 per cent from November 2014.
8. PRODUCTIVITY
In November 2015, the productivity of NR production on estates was recorded at 104.6 kilogramme per hectare. The productivity of NR production showed a decrease when compared to month-on-month and year-on-year at 44.1 kilogramme per hectare (-29.7%) and 19.0 kilogramme per hectare (-15.4%) respectively.
