Overview
1. PRODUCTION
In July 2015, production of natural rubber (NR) was recorded at 54,728 tonnes. The production was increased by 956 tonnes (+1.8%) from June 2015, whereas for year-on-year, it fell by 5,603 tonnes (-9.3%). The largest contributor of total NR production was from the smallholding sector at 91.2 per cent and the remaining is from the estate sector. For month-on-month, production from smallholding sectors showed an increase of 2.0 per cent while the production from estate decreased by 0.1 per cent.
2. EXPORTS
A total of 80,288 tonnes of Malaysia’s natural rubber (NR) was exported in July 2015. Exports increased by 13,903 tonnes (+20.9%) from June 2015 and 28,516 tonnes (+55.1%) from July 2014. Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) contributed 96.7 per cent of the total NR exports that comprised 70.6 per cent of S.M.R. 20.
NR was mainly exported to the People’s Rep. of China (62.9%), followed by Germany (10.5%), Islamic Rep. of Iran (4.2%), U.S.A. (3.7%), Finland (1.6%), Taiwan (1.3%), Rep. of Korea (1.1%), France (0.9%) and Mexico (0.9%).
3. IMPORTS
The total imports of NR in July 2015 amounted to 78,608 tonnes. Imports increased by 10,123 tonnes (+14.8%) from June 2015 but fell by 3,970 tonnes (-4.8%) from July 2014. Standard Rubber and Latex Concentrate were the main types of NR imported, at 37.8 per cent and 35.1 per cent respectively.
NR was imported mainly from Thailand (48.7%) and Viet Nam (27.8%).
4. DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION
The domestic consumption of NR in July 2015 was 40,129 tonnes, dropped by 644 tonnes (-1.6%) from June 2015. However, when comparing to July 2014, domestic consumption of NR shows an increase of 3,708 tonnes (+10.2%).
The rubber gloves industry is the major industry in consuming NR with a total of 29,396 tonnes (73.3%), followed by rubber thread (10.0%) and tyre & tubes (7.1%). The total consumption for these three industries comprised of 90.4 per cent from the overall domestic consumption of NR.
5. STOCKS
The level of stocks at the end of July 2015 was recorded at 129,694 tonnes. The level of stocks decreased when compared to month-on-month and year-on-year that is 1,387 tonnes (-1.1%) and 16,777 tonnes (-11.5%) respectively.
6. AVERAGE MONTHLY PRICE PER KILOGRAMME

In July 2015, the average monthly price of latex concentrate was recorded at 438.23 sen per kilogramme, dropped by 58.29 sen (-11.7%) from the previous month and 15.67 sen (-3.5%) when compared to July 2014.
The price of S.M.R. 20 in July 2015 was 540.57 cents, reduced by 6.9 per cent compared to June 2015. Nevertheless, the price of G.M.M 20 increased by 1.2 per cent on the same month in 2014.
7. EMPLOYMENT
A total of 12,180 persons were engaged in the rubber estates in July 2015, where 12,176 persons were paid employees with total salaries & wages paid amounting to RM14.9 million. The number of paid employees increased by 0.3 per cent from the previous month but decreased by 3.4 per cent from a year ago.
8. PRODUCTIVITY
The productivity of NR production on estates was recorded at 124.9 kilogramme per hectare in July 2015. The productivity of NR production showed an increase when compared to month-on-month at 0.3 kilogramme per hectare (+0.2%) whereas year-on-year it dropped by 7.9 kilogramme per hectare (-5.9%).
