Overview

Volume Index of  Wholesale & Retail Trade expanded  9.1 per cent to 172.3 points in third quarter 2018 as compared to the same period in 2017. The growth was driven by Retail Trade  12.1 per cent.
 

Seasonally adjusted Volume Index of Wholesale & Retail Trade went  up  1.9 per cent as against the second quarter 2018. The increase  was  propelled  by  Motor  Vehicles  and  Retail  Trade  sub-sector  with   3.1 per cent   respectively.

Wholesale Trade Sub-sector

Volume  Index  of  Wholesale  Trade  grew  6.5 per cent  to  180.9 points  in  the third  quarter  2018  as compared to  third quarter  2017. The growth was   supported mainly by Wholesale of Food, Beverages and Tobacco  (10.3%),  Wholesale of Household Goods  (9.7%)  and  Non-specialised  Wholesale Trade   (8.0%).

Retail Trade Sub-sector

In third quarter  2018, the  Retail  Trade sub-sector  registered  a growth of   12.1 per cent  to 178.1 points  year-on-year. The growth  was  driven  by  Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation  Goods  in  Specialised  Stores   (14.4%), Retail  Sale  of  Other  Goods  in  Specialised   Stores  (13.9%)  and  Retail  Sale  of Information  and  Communication  Equipment  in  Specialised  Stores  (12.6%).

Motor Vehicles Sub-sector

Volume   Index  of   Motor   Vehicles   which   includes   Parts   and   Accessories    posted   an   increase    of    7.7  per cent   to  134.4 points in  the  third  quarter  2018 as  against  the  same  quarter  2017.  The  increase  was  contributed  by  activity of  Sales   of  Motor  Vehicles  (8.3%).
