HIGHLIGHTS

Volume  index  of  Wholesale  &  Retail  Trade  recorded an increase of  8.7  per cent  to  173.6 points  in  June  2018  as  compared  to  June 2017. The expansion was supported by both Retail Trade  (10.4%)  and  Motor Vehicles  (9.6%). Seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade increased  2.9 per cent over the preceding month.

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade amounted for RM106.1 billion in June 2018. In terms of growth, the sales value increased  9.6 per cent as compared to the corresponding period in 2017, driven by Retail Trade (12.1%) and Motor Vehicles (10.1%).

Wholesale Trade

Volume index of Wholesale Trade grew  6.8 per cent to 179.3 points in June 2018 as compared to June 2017. Month-on-month basis, this sub-sector  (seasonally adjusted) registed an increase by  0.3 per cent.

Sales value of Wholesale Trade registered  7.4 per cent growth to RM50.4 billion as  compared  to  the corresponding month of the previous year. Month-on-month, this sub-sector  registered a marginally decline of  0.3 per cent.

Retail Trade 

Year-on-year, volume index of Retail Trade registered a growth rate of 10.4 per cent to register 181.9 points in this month. Compared to May 2018, seasonally adjusted volume index of Retail Trade increased by  5.3 per cent.

Sales  value  of  Retail  Trade  recorded  an  increase  of   12.1  per  cent  to  RM42.7  billion  as  compared  to  June  2017. Month-on-month, sales value of this sub-sector registered positive growth of  4.5 per cent.  

Motor Vehicles

Volume   index   of   Motor   Vehicles   recorded  a positive  growth  of  9.6  per cent  to  138.5  points  in  June  2018   as   compared  to  a  year  ago. For  month-on-month comparison,  seasonally  adjusted  volume  index of this sub-sector recorded  5.5 per cent growth.    

For  this  month, sales  value  of  Motor Vehicles amounted  to  RM13.0 billion  or an increase of  10.1 per cent as compared to  June 2017. Month-on-month, sales value registered positive growth of  5.8 per cent.
