Peninsular Malaysia

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in almost all regions for several categories of building increased in September as compared to the previous month except in region D-Johor which decreased 0.1 per cent for 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) and (R.C.) piling.

The BCI (with steel bars) in all regions except in region D-Johor showed changes in between -0.1 and 0.3 per cent for several categories of building in September as compared to the previous month. However, the BCI for timber building and timber piling in all regions remained unchange as compared to the previous month.

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by regions in Peninsular Malaysia are shown in Table 1.

 

Sabah

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu for timber building, (R.C.) piling, single storey steel frame (building) and single storey steel frame (tower only) showed changes of 0.1 per cent, -1.7 per cent, 0.3 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively in September as compared to August 2018. The BCI in Sandakan decreased for almost all categories of building except for timber piling which was unchange as compared to the previous month. While, the BCI in Tawau for several categories of building increased as compared to the previous month.

The BCI (with steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu increased for almost all categories of building in September except for (R.C.) piling which decreased 0.3 per cent as compared to August 2018. In contrast, the BCI in Sandakan decreased for almost all categories of buildings except for timber piling which was unchange. Meanwhile, the BCI for 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office), timber building, (R.C.) piling and single storey steel frame (building) in Tawau showed changes of -0.1 per cent, 0.1 per cent, -0.3 per cent and 0.2 per cent respectively as compared to the previous month.

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Sabah are shown in Table 2.

        

Sarawak

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for several categories of building in Kuching showed changes in September as compared to August 2018. In contrast, the BCI in Miri for almost all categories of building decreased as compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the BCI in Sibu was unchange.

 

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region in Sarawak are shown in Table 3.
