Exports

On a-month-on-month basis, in Mei 2016, the export unit value index decreased 0.1% to 102.4 points. This was mainly contributed by mineral fuels (-6.9%) and manufactured goods (-0.3%). The export volume index decreased 2.2% to 109.9 points. This was led by mineral fuels (-12.1%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (-4.0%) and manufactured goods (-3.4%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index dropped 3.9%.

When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index registered a decrease of 1.4%. In contrast, the export volume index increased 0.5%. 

 

Imports

In May 2016, the import unit value index increased 0.7% to 106.9 points. The increase was attributed to mineral fuels (+3.5%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+1.0%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.3%). However the import volume index increased 7.6% to 120.4 points. This expansion was led by machinery & transport equipment (+12.6%), mineral fuels (+7.2%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+7.1%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index increased 6.2%.

On a-year-on-year basis, the import unit value index registered a marginal decrease 0.02% and the import volume index registered rose 3.1%.

 

Terms of trade

In May 2016, Malaysia’s terms of trade dropped 0.8% when compared with the preceding month, while a reduction of 1.4% was recorded year-on-year.
