Exports

On a month-on-month basis, in February 2016, the export unit value index decreased 1.4% to 104.3 points. This was attributed to the drop in the index of mineral fuels (-7.0%), inedible crude materials (-2.8%) and chemicals (-2.1%). The export volume index also decreased 7.0% which was led by the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles (-17.2%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-15.3%) and machinery & transport equipment (-9.1%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index increased 2.3%.

When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index registered a decrease of 2.7%. In contrast, the export volume index increased 9.7%.

 

Imports

In February 2016, the import unit value index decreased 0.3% to 107.8 points when compared to January 2016. This was led by the index of mineral fuels (-4.7%), inedible crude materials (-1.1%) and manufactured goods (-0.3%). Reflecting the same trend, the import volume index dropped 12.3%, mainly attributed to the index of inedible crude materials (-32.0%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (-18.9%) and manufactured goods (-17.3%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index increased 3.6%.

On a-year-on-year basis, the import unit value index registered an increase of 1.9%. In contrast, the import volume index decreased 0.3%.

 

Terms of trade

In February 2016, Malaysia’s terms of trade decreased 1.1% when compared with January 2016. On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade registered a reduction of 4.6%.
