Exports

On a-month-on-month basis, in June 2016, the export unit value index rose 1.3% to 103.8 points. The rise was mainly attributed to mineral fuels (+9.1%), chemicals (+1.4%) and inedible crude materials (+1.2%). On a similar trend, the export volume index also increased 9.4% to 120.3 points which was led by inedible crude materials (+15.3%), mineral fuels (+14.4%) and manufactured goods (+13.8%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index increased 10.1%.

When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index registered a decrease of 1.7%. In contrast, the export volume index increased 5.2%. 

 

Imports

In June 2016, the import unit value index increased 1.0% to 107.9 points. The increase was attributed to mineral fuels (+6.6%), inedible crude materials (+1.0%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.4%). The import volume index also expanded 6.5% to 128.2 points. This expansion was led by mineral fuels (+28.1%), inedible crude materials (+26.1%) and manufactured goods (+9.7%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index registered a rise of 8.9%

On a-year-on-year basis, the import unit value index registered a marginal decrease of 0.04%, whereas the import volume index registered an increase of 8.3%.

 

Terms of trade

In June 2016, Malaysia’s terms of trade expanded 0.3% to 96.2 points when compared with the preceding month, while a reduction of 1.7% was recorded year-on-year.
