Exports

On a month-on-month basis, in July 2019, the export unit value index recorded an increase of 0.1% to 115.4 points which was mainly attributed to the increase in the index of machinery & transport equipment (+0.3%), mineral fuels (+0.3%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+0.2%). The export volume index registered an increase of 15.3% to 143.3 points. The increase was led by the index of inedible crude materials (+27.7%), machinery & transport equipment (+26.6%) and manufactured goods (+13.8%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index increased by 10.7% to 143.5 points.

When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index and export volume index expanded by 0.4% and 1.3% respectively.”

 

Imports

In July 2019, the import unit value index decreased 0.4% to 117.6 points which were mainly led by the decrease in the index of animal & vegetable oils & fats (-2.4%) followed by mineral fuels (-1.9%) and manufactured goods (-0.4%). Meanwhile, the import volume index increased by 12.2% to 142.4 points. The increment was mainly attributed to the increase in the index of inedible crude materials (+21.9%), food (+16.2%) and chemicals (+15.9%).  In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index in July 2019 increased 6.9% to 138.4 points.

On a year-on-year basis, the import unit value and volume index decreased 0.6% and 5.4% respectively.”

 

Terms of trade

Malaysia’s terms of trade increased by 0.5% to 98.1 points when compared with June 2019. On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade also rose 1.1% from   97.0 points.
