Exports

On a month-on-month basis, in June 2019, the export unit value index recorded a decline of 0.1% to 115.2 points which was mainly attributed to the decrease in the index of mineral fuels (-1.4%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-1.2%) and manufactured goods (-0.4%). Meanwhile, the export volume index also recorded the same trend with a drop of 9.4% to 124.3 points. This was led by the decrease in the index of animal & vegetable oils & fats (-22.1%), manufactured goods (-19.6%) and food (-18.6%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index decreased 6.4% to 129.6 points.

When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index expanded 0.7% while the export volume index declined 3.8%.

 

Imports

In June 2019, the import unit value index fell 0.7% to 118.1 points when compared to the previous month, which was mainly led by a decline in the index of mineral fuels (-5.5%). While, the index of manufactured goods and machinery & transport equipment dropped marginally by 0.3% and 0.2% respectively. The import volume index also decreased 11.6% to 126.9 points which was mainly attributed to the decline in the index of chemicals (-18.9%), manufactured goods (-16.6%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-14.4%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index in June 2019 decreased 8.1% to 129.5 points.

On a year-on-year basis, both the import unit value and volume indices shrank 0.2% and 9.0% respectively.

 

Terms of trade

Malaysia’s terms of trade grew 0.7% to 97.6 points when compared with May 2019. On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade also registered a rise of 0.9% from 96.7 points.
