Exports of three states registered
an increase in September 2023
- Malaysia’s total
trade for September 2023 amounted to RM224.4 billion with exports and imports
recorded RM124.5 billion and RM100.0 billion, respectively.
- Exports was valued at RM124.5 billion in September 2023, decreased RM19.8 billion (-13.7%) as
compared to the same month of the previous year. The decrease in exports was
attributed to the lower exports in most states such as Johor (-RM6.7 billion),
Pulau Pinang (-RM4.8 billion), Sarawak (-RM3.8 billion), Selangor (-RM3.1
billion), W.P. Labuan (-RM1.6 billion), Sabah (-RM983.3 million), Perak
(-RM537.9 million), Terengganu (-RM524.4 million), Melaka (-RM404.6 million),
Pahang (-RM306.4 million), Perlis (-RM25.5 million) and Kelantan (-RM12.0
million). However, exports increased in Kedah by RM1.9 billion, W.P. Kuala
Lumpur (+RM961.1 million) and Negeri Sembilan (+RM81.9 million).
- Pulau Pinang remained
as the top exporter with 34.6 per cent share, followed by Johor (19.3%),
Selangor (17.1%), Sarawak (6.8%) and Kedah (5.0%).
- At the same time, imports also decreased RM12.5
billion (-11.1%) in September 2023 as compared to the same month
in 2022. The decrease in imports was attributed by the lower imports in most
states such as Johor (-RM5.1 billion), Pulau Pinang (-RM3.7 billion), Selangor
(-RM2.0 billion), Kedah (-RM754.5 million), Sarawak (-RM665.0 million), Melaka (-RM626.5
million), W.P. Labuan (-RM509.0 million), Perak (-RM255.3 million), W.P. Kuala
Lumpur (-RM188.1 million), Sabah (-RM103.1 million) and Perlis (-RM2.4
million). However, imports increased in Negeri Sembilan by RM990.5 million,
Pahang (+RM591.6 million), Terengganu (+RM78.6 million) and Kelantan (+RM40.5
million).
- Selangor
continued to dominate Malaysia’s imports with a share of 26.8 per cent, followed by Johor (21.1%), Pulau
Pinang (20.9%), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (7.4%) and Kedah (6.0%).
