Ten states recorded
trade surplus in August 2023
Malaysia’s
total trade for August 2023 amounted to RM213.0 billion with exports and
imports recorded RM115.2 billion and RM97.9 billion, respectively. Exports was valued at RM115.2 billion in
August 2023, decreased
RM26.4
billion (-18.6%) as compared to the same month of the previous year. The
decrease in exports was attributed to the lower exports in most states such as
Pulau Pinang (-RM9.1 billion), Johor (-RM7.9 billion), Selangor (-RM3.6
billion), Sarawak (-RM2.7 billion), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (-RM2.5 billion), Melaka
(-RM607.1 million), Sabah (-RM484.8 million), Kelantan (-RM253.5 million),
Terengganu (-RM191.6 million), Perak (-RM124.7 million), Pahang (-RM86.0
million) and Perlis (-RM26.0 million). However, exports increased in W.P.
Labuan by RM719.1 million, Kedah (+RM431.3 million) and Negeri Sembilan
(+RM246.8 million).
Pulau
Pinang remained as the top exporter wit?h 28.8 per cent share, followed by
Johor (22.1%), Selangor (18.4%), Sarawak (7.9%) and Kedah (4.2%).
At
the same time, imports also decreased RM26.4 billion (-21.2%) in August 2023 as
compared to the same month in 2022. The decrease in imports was contributed by
the lower imports in most states such as
Johor (-RM12.2 billion), Pulau Pinang (-RM6.2 billion), Selangor (-RM4.2
billion), Negeri Sembilan (-RM1.2 billion), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (-RM721.2
million), Pahang (-RM402.3 million), Kedah (-RM348.0 million), W.P. Labuan
(-RM347.1 million), Sabah (-RM257.0 million), Melaka (-RM237.1 million), Perak
(-RM190.0 million), Sarawak (-RM63.7 million), Perlis (-RM15.8 million) and
Kelantan (-RM6.1 million). However, imports increased in Terengganu by RM188.1
million.
Selangor
continued to dominate Malaysia’s imports with a share of 27.7 per cent,
followed by Johor (21.1%), Pulau Pinang (21.1%), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (7.1%) and
Kedah (5.9%).
