Overview
In the second quarter of 2019, volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade expanded 6.1 per cent to 127.8 points as compared to the same period in 2018. Retail Trade was the key performer by registering 9.0 per cent.
As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it increased 2.6 per cent as against the first quarter of 2019. Motor Vehicles, Retail Trade and Wholesale Trade recorded a positive growth of 4.0 per cent, 3.9 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively.

Wholesale Trade Sub-sector
Volume index of Wholesale Trade grew 4.0 per cent to 127.0 points in the second quarter 2019 as compared to second quarter 2018. The growth was supported mainly by Wholesale of Food, Beverages & Tobacco (8.3%) and Wholesale of Agricultural Raw Materials and Live Animals (7.2%).
Retail Trade Sub-sector
In second quarter 2019, Retail Trade sub-sector registered a growth of 9.0 per cent to 136.5 points year on year. The growth was attributed by Retail Sale of Information & Communications Equipment in Specialised Stores (10.3%) and Retail Sale Other Goods in Specialised Stores (9.9%).
Motor Vehicles Sub-sector
Volume index of Motor Vehicles rose 4.1 per cent to 105.6 points in the second quarter 2019 as against the same period in 2018. The increase was driven by Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts & Accessories (7.2%) and Sale, Maintenance & Repair of Motorcycles & Related Parts & Accessories (5.6%).
