Overview
Volume Index of Wholesale & Retail Trade grew 7.4 per cent to 157.9 points in third quarter 2017 as compared to the same period in 2016. The growth was led by Retail Trade sub-sector with 10.4 per cent.
Seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade increased 1.4 per cent as against the second quarter 2017. The increase was supported by the Wholesale Trade sub-sector with 3.1 per cent.

Performance of Wholesale Trade Sub-sector
Volume Index of Wholesale Trade rose 6.6 per cent to 169.9 points in the third quarter 2017 as compared to third quarter 2016. The growth was contributed by Other Specialised Wholesale Trade (9.1%).
Performance of Retail Trade Sub-sector
In third quarter 2017, the Retail Trade sub-sector expanded 10.4 per cent to 158.7 points year-on-year. The growth was backed by Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (13.3%) and Retail Sale of Information and Communication Equipment in Specialised Store (12.4%).
Performance of Motor Vehicles Sub-sector
Volume Index of Motor Vehicles which includes Parts and Accessories registered an increase of 0.3 per cent to 124.8 points in the third quarter 2017 as against the same quarter 2016. This increase was mainly contributed by the growth in Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts and Accessories (2.7%), Sale, Maintenance and Repair of Motorcycles and Related Parts and Accessories (2.0%) and Maintenance and Repair of Motor Vehicles (2.0%).
