HIGHLIGHTS

Volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade rose  9.4 per cent to  157.7 points in July 2017 as compared to July 2016. The growth was supported by the increase in Retail Trade  (12.9 %). Seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade increased  0.1 per cent as compared to the preceding month.

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade stood at  RM96.5 billion in July 2017, registering  11.1 per cent growth as compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The sales value consists of Wholesale Trade ( RM45.9 billion), Retail Trade  (RM38.3 billion) and Motor Vehicles  (RM12.4 billion) businesses. The positive growth was contributed by Retail Trade (14.1%).

Wholesale Trade Business

Volume  index  of  Wholesale  Trade   grew   6.8  per  cent  to   162.7  points   in   July  2017  as  compared  to  July   2016.   Month-on-month,  volume index of Wholesale Trade (seasonally adjusted) decreased  0.9 per cent as against the previous month.

Sales  value  of  Wholesale  Trade  business  registered   9.2  per  cent  growth  to   RM45.9 billion  as  compared  to  the  corresponding  month  of  the previous year. Month-on-month, sales value of this business decreased  2.3 per cent.

Retail Trade Business

Volume index of Retail Trade rose  12.9 per cent to  163.8 points in July 2017 as compared to the same month a year earlier. Compared to June 2017, seasonally adjusted volume index of Retail Trade went down  0.3 per cent.

Retail  Trade  business  recorded  an  increase  in  sales  value  to   RM38.3  billion  or   14.1  per  cent  as  compared  to  last  year. Month-on-month, this business increased  0.6 per cent.

Motor Vehicles Business

Year-on-year, volume index of Motor Vehicles increased  7.0 per cent to  129.8 points in July 2017. Seasonally adjusted volume index of Motor Vehicles went up  3.4 per cent in July 2017 as against June 2017.

In this month, sales value of Motor Vehicles business increased  9.8 per cent to  RM12.4 billion  as compared to the same month of the preceding year. Sales value of Motor Vehicles business increased  4.6 per cent as compared to the previous month.
