Overview
Index of Wholesale & Retail Trade expanded 7.6 per cent to 155.6 points in second quarter 2017 as compared to the same period in 2016. The growth was driven by Retail Trade subsector (11.5%).
Seasonally adjusted index of Wholesale & Retail Trade rose 2.7 per cent as against the first quarter 2017. The increase was contributed by the Retail Trade (4.5%) and Wholesale Trade (2.8%) sub-sectors.

Performance of Wholesale Trade Sub-sector
Index of Wholesale Trade registered an increase of 5.9 per cent to 165.9 points in the second quarter 2017 as compared to second quarter 2016. The increase was driven primarily by Other Specialised Wholesale (7.5%), Wholesale of Agricultural Raw Materials and Livestock (7.3%) and Wholesale of Machinery, Equipment and Supplies (6.2%).
Performance of Retail Trade Sub-sector
In second quarter 2017, the Retail Trade sub-sector surged 11.5 per cent to 157.5 points year-on-year. The growth was spurred by Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (13.5%), Retail Sale of Non-specialized Stores (12.7%) and Retail Sale of Information and Communication Equipment in Specialised Stores (12.5%).
Performance of Motor Vehicles Sub-sector
Index of Motor Vehicles which includes Parts and Accessories grew 0.8 per cent to 124.7 points in the second quarter 2017 as against the same quarter 2016. This increase was mainly contributed by the growth in Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts and Accessories (3.6%) and Maintenance and Repair of Motor Vehicles (3.3%).
