Performance Review – Indices (March 2021)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI for all region in Peninsular Malaysia increased between 0.1 and 1.9 per cent for almost all building categories. However, the BCI in region B (Perak) declined by 0.1 per cent for 5 Storey and Above (R.C.) Building (For Accommodation). Similarly, a decrease of 0.2 per cent was recorded for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Flat Roof), 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Pitched Roof) and 5 Storey & Above (R.C.) Building (For Office).

The BCI for all region in Sabah increased between 0.1 and 6.3 per cent for almost all building categories except for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Flat Roof) and 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Pitched Roof) in Kota Kinabalu which dropped by 0.1 per cent.

The BCI in Kuching and Miri increased between 0.1 and 2.9 per cent for almost all building categories except for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Flat Roof) and 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Pitched Roof) in Kuching which decreased by 0.1 per cent. The BCI for (R.C.) Piling in Kuching also showed a decline of 0.7 per cent.

With steel bars:

The BCI for all region in Peninsular Malaysia increased between 0.1 and 2.3 per cent for almost all building categories. However, the BCI in region B (Perak) recorded a decrease of 0.1 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Flat Roof), 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Pitched Roof), 5 Storey & Above (R.C.) Building (For Office) and (R.C.) Piling.

The BCI for all region in Sabah increased between 0.1 and 6.3 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI in Kuching decreased between 0.1 and 1.0 per cent for all building categories except for Timber Building which increased by 0.1 per cent. The BCI in Miri recorded an increase between 0.7 and 2.7 per cent for all building categories.

Changes in Unit Price Indices (March 2021)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region across Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
