Overview

MONTH-ON-MONTH COMPARISON:

Exports 

In November 2015, Malaysia’s export value recorded a decline of 10.8% to RM67.6 billion where the export volume index decreased 10.3% to 108.4. This was mainly attributed to manufactured good (-16.4%), chemicals (-14.6%) and machinery & transport equipment (-13.5%).

Meanwhile, the export unit value index decreased 0.5% to 141.1 points. This was mainly contributed by mineral fuels (-3.4%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-1.7%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-0.7%). 

     

Seasonally adjusted figure

In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index decreased 4.5% to 108.9 points.

 

Imports

In November 2015, Malaysia’s total import value registered a reduction of 9.8% to   RM57.4 billion where the import volume index dropped 9.4% to 121.4 points. This was mainly attributed to mineral fuels (-20.7%), food (-13.2%) and manufactured good (-12.0%).

Meanwhile, the import unit value index dropped 0.2% to 133.3 points which was led by manufactured good (-0.5%), machinery & transport equipment (-0.2%) and mineral fuels   (-0.1%).

 

Seasonally adjusted figure

In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index in November 2015 increased 0.9% to 128.9 points.

 

YEAR-ON-YEAR COMPARISON:

Exports

Malaysia’s export value increased 6.3% from RM63.6 billion where the export volume index increased 2.8% from 105.4 points, year-on-year basis. The increase was mainly due to animal & vegetable oils & fats (+18.7%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+9.4%) and manufactured good (+7.9%).

Similarly, the export unit value index registered an increase of 3.2% from 136.7 points which was led by chemicals (+8.7%), machinery & transport equipment (+4.7%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+4.6%). 

 

Imports

In November 2015, the import value posted an expansion of 9.1% from RM52.6 billion where the import volume index increased 7.0% from 113.4 points. The increase was mainly due to miscellaneous manufactured articles (+30.0%), food (+10.5%) and machinery & transport equipment (+8.8%)

Meanwhile, the import unit value index increased 2.3% from 130.4 points. This was attributed to manufactured goods (+4.6%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+3.8%) and chemicals (+3.6%).

TERMS OF TRADE

In November 2015, Malaysia’s terms of trade decreased 0.4% to 105.8 points when compared with October 2015. The decrease was mainly registered in mineral fuels (-3.2%), miscellaneous transaction & commodities (-3.0%) and inedible crude material  (-2.1%).

On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade registered an expansion of 0.9% from 104.9 points. The expansion was mainly recorded in mineral fuels (+7.5%) followed by beverages & tobacco (+7.3%) and food (+5.6%).
