Malaysia’s Index of Industrial Production (IPI) increased by 4.7 percent in September 2017

The Index of Industrial Production (IPI) grew by  4.7 per cent in September 2017 compared to the same month of the previous year. The expansion in September was supported by positive growth in all indices: Manufacturing  (5.7%), Mining (2.1%) and Electricity (2.2%).

Year-on-year basis, Manufacturing sector output rose  5.7 per cent in September 2017 after registering a strong growth of 7.6 per cent in August 2017. The major sub-sectors which recorded an expansion in September 2017 were: Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (4.9%), Electrical and Electronic Products (6.6%) and Food, Beverages and Tobacco Products (8.0%).

The Mining sector output increased by  2.1 per cent in September 2017 (August 2017: 5.3%). This was mainly due to an increase of  0.7 per cent in the index for Crude Oil and  3.9 per cent in the index for Natural Gas. 

The Electricity sector output expanded  2.2 per cent in September 2017 on yearly basis.
