The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has declared October 20th, 2010 as World Statistics Day. After that, the 2nd World Statistics Day was held on 20th October 2015 and is now celebrated every 5 years on 20th October.
Since the declaration of World Statistics Day in 2010, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has held various interesting activities/programs involving various layers of society in DOSM's efforts to literate statistics.
In 2017, through the Cabinet Meeting, it was agreed that National Statistics Day (HSN) be officially declared to be celebrated on 20th October every year. Since then, it has been celebrated on October 20th every year.
The 51st United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) has adopted the logo and slogan "Connecting the world with data we can trust" as the theme for the five-year period from 2020 until 2025. The celebration of HSN will have a significant impact on the initiative of the DOSM to ensure that statistical culture can be beneficial in achieving the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.
