PERFORMANCE OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION INDEX
The Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 4.0% in April 2015 as compared to the same month in the previous year. The increase in April 2015 was due to the positive growth in all indices: Manufacturing (4.1%), Mining (3.9%) and Electricity (3.0%). The IPI in March 2015 has been revised to 7.1% year-on-year.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the IPI in April 2015 recorded a marginal decrease of 0.4% month-on-month following a decline in the indices: Manufacturing (1.0%), Mining (1.9%) and Electricity (1.0%).

PERFORMANCE OF MANUFACTURING SECTOR
Year-on-year, Manufacturing output increased by 4.1% in April 2015 after a strong growth of 6.3% in March 2015. The major sub-sectors which increased in April 2015 were: Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (3.6%); Electrical and Electronics Products (4.0%); and Food, Beverages and Tobacco (5.5%). On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Manufacturing output declined by 1.0% in April 2015.

PERFORMANCE OF MINING SECTOR
The Mining sector output registered a growth of 3.9% in April 2015 compared to the same month in 2014. This growth was contributed by the increase of Crude Oil index by 15.0%. The Natural Gas index, however, declined by 8.1%. As against March 2015, seasonally adjusted output for the Mining sector decreased by 1.9%.

PERFORMANCE OF ELECTRICITY SECTOR
The Electricity sector output expanded by 3.0% in April 2015 on yearly basis. In seasonally adjusted terms, Electricity sector output decreased by 1.0% in April 2015 as compared to the previous month.

PERFORMANCE OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION INDEX FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY TO APRIL 2015
|
|
Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index for the period of January to April 2015 posted a growth of5.8% as compared to the same period in the previous year. The expansion was contributed by the increase of all indices: Manufacturing (5.3%), Mining (7.9%) and Electricity (3.7%).
