Performance Review – Indices (May 2021)

Without steel bars:

As compared to the previous month, the BCI for all region in Peninsular Malaysia increased between 0.1 and 1.2 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI in Kota Kinabalu for Single Storey Steel Frame (Building) and Single Storey Steel Frame (Tower only) increased by 1.3 per cent and 2.5 per cent respectively. The BCI in Sandakan and Tawau also increased between 0.1 and 1.0 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI in Kuching increased between 0.7 and 2.0 per cent for almost all building categories. However, the BCI in Miri showed a decrease of 0.1 per cent for 2-4 Storey (R.C.) Building (Flat Roof), 5 Storey and Above (R.C.) Building (For Accommodation) and 5 Storey and Above (R.C.) Building (For Office).

With steel bars:

The BCI for all region in Peninsular Malaysia increased between 0.1 and 3.2 per cent for almost all building categories.

The BCI for all region in Sabah increased between 0.1 and 3.2 per cent for almost all building categories except Timber Piling which decreased by 0.1 per cent.

The BCI in Kuching increased between 0.6 and 1.8 per cent for almost all building categories. Meanwhile, the BCI in Miri showed an increase of (R.C.) Piling only.

Changes in Unit Price Indices (May 2021)

The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region across Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
