Overview

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded RM137.3 billion in December  2022, registered  a  growth  of  13.8 per cent year-on-year. The positive growth was  contributed  by  all  sub-sectors,  namely  Retail  Trade  22.7 per cent,  Motor Vehicles 20.3 per cent, and Wholesale Trade 4.7 per cent. In 2022, the Wholesale & Retail Trade sub-sector recorded RM1.6 trillion, increased 19.6 per cent compared to 4.0 per cent in 2021. As  for  COVID-19  pre-pandemic  comparison,  this  sub-sector  has surpassed  the  2019  value  level  by  RM228.1 billion or growth of 17.2 per cent (2019 = RM1.3 trillion).


In terms of volume index, Wholesale & Retail Trade registered 9.5 per cent year-on-year to record 149.2 points. The increment was supported by the increase in Retail Trade 17.4 per cent, Motor Vehicles 9.7 per cent, and Wholesale Trade 1.1 per cent. As   for   seasonally   adjusted   volume   index,  it   went  up  0.2 per cent  month-on-month in December 2022.   Volume   index   in   2022  was   recorded  142.1 points  compared  to  124.3 points in 2021, increased 14.3 per cent.
