Average price of Standard Malaysia Rubber (SMR) 20 highest in October 2020

Production of natural rubber increased 5.4 per cent in October 2020 to 48,663 tonnes as compared to 46,187 tonnes in the previous month. Comparison to the same month in the previous year also showed an increase of 0.3 per cent in production.

Exports of Malaysia's natural rubber amounted 54,492 tonnes in October 2020, an increase of 11.8 per cent against 48,720 tonnes in September 2020. People’s Republic of China remains as the main destination for natural rubber exports with 57.0 per cent of total exports in October 2020 followed by Germany (11.7%), Finland (3.7%), Iran (3.3%) and Brazil (2.8%).

Rubber gloves was the main export item with export value RM3.8 billion in September 2020 to RM4.4 billion in October 2020, an increase of 14.6 per cent. United States, Germany and United Kingdom was remained as among highest export rubber gloves.

The stocks of natural rubber increased in October 2020 with 256,724 tonnes as compared to 255,089 tonnes in September 2020 with an increase of 0.6 per cent.

The average price of SMR 20 recorded the highest price in October 2020 with an increase to 621.76 sen per kilogram compared to 558.50 sen per kilogram in September 2020. Similar trend was also observed for the average price of Latex Concentrate which increased to 576.14 sen per kilogram in October 2020 for the same period (September 2020: 484.57 sen   per kilogram).

Total domestic consumption for natural rubber was 48,518 tonnes, an increase of 6.3 per cent as compared to the previous month. Rubber gloves industry continues to dominate the use of natural rubber with 36,901 tonnes or 76.1 per cent from the total domestic consumption.
