Exports

On a-month-on-month basis, in November 2016, the export unit value index registered an expansion of 1.1% to 108.0 points. This was led by chemicals (+1.7%), machinery & transport equipment (+1.2%) and inedible crude materials (+1.2%). Similarly, the export volume index rose 4.1% to 126.7 points. This was mainly due to inedible crude materials (+24.6%), mineral fuels (+15.4%) and manufactured goods (+13.1%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the  export volume index increased 11.4%.

When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index dropped marginally by 0.4%. Meanwhile, the export volume index increased 7.9%.

 

Imports

In November 2016, the import unit value index expanded 1.6% to 112.0 points which was attributed to mineral fuels (+6.3%), inedible crude materials (+2.5%) and machinery & transport equipment (+1.4%). Similarly, the  import volume index recorded an increase of 5.7% to 129.5 points. The increase was mainly led by inedible crude materials (+29.2%) followed by miscellaneous manufactured articles (+8.6%) and manufactured goods (+7.2%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the  import volume index rose 18.3%.

On a-year-on-year basis, the import unit value index and the import volume index both recorded the increase of 3.2% and 7.7% respectively.

 

Terms of trade

In November 2016, Malaysia’s terms of trade recorded a decline of 0.5% to 96.5 points when compared with the preceding month, while a reduction of 3.5% was recorded year-on-year.
