MONTH-ON-MONTH COMPARISON:

Exports

In July 2015, Malaysia’s export value recorded a decline of 1.6% to RM63.2 billion where the export volume index dropped 2.1% to 102.7 points. This was mainly attributed to manufactured goods (-13.6%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-8.9%) and mineral fuels    (-3.4%).

Meanwhile, the export unit value index increased 0.5% to 139.1 points. Mineral fuels grew 2.5%, followed by machinery & transport equipment (+0.2%) and chemicals (+0.2%).

In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index decreased 3.3% to 103.3 points.

 

Imports

In July 2015, Malaysia’s total import value registered an increase of 8.1% to RM60.9 billion where the import volume index increased 7.7% to 129.2 points. This was mainly attributed to mineral fuels (+61.6%), machinery & transport equipment (+5.3%) and manufactured goods (+0.9%).

The import unit value index also increased 0.4% to 132.5 points which was led by chemicals (+1.0%), machinery & transport equipment (+0.6%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+0.5%).

In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index in July 2015 increased 3.4% to 124.2 points.

 

YEAR-ON-YEAR COMPARISON:

Exports

Malaysia’s export value increased 3.5% from RM61.1 billion where the export volume index increased 2.2% from 100.5 points, year-on-year basis. The increase was mainly due to chemicals (+14.0%), machinery & transport equipment (+13.1%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+10.6%).

Meanwhile, the export unit value index also registered an increase of 1.2% from 137.5 points which was led by manufactured goods (+5.6%), machinery & transport equipment (+4.6%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+4.6%).

 

Imports

In July 2015, the import value posted an expansion of 5.9% from RM57.5 billion where the import volume index increased 6.2% from 121.7 points. The increase was mainly due to miscellaneous manufactured articles (+17.3%), mineral fuels (+8.1%), machinery & transport equipment (+7.8%).

Meanwhile, the import unit value index decreased 0.3% from 132.8 points. This was contributed by mineral fuels (-11.7%) and manufactured goods (-1.6%).

 

TERMS OF TRADE

In July 2015, Malaysia’s terms of trade increased 0.1% to 105.0 points as compared with June 2015. The increase was mainly due to mineral fuels which increase by 2.8%. 

On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade increased by 1.5% from 103.5 points. The expansion was mainly recorded in manufactured goods (+7.3%), followed by beverages & tobacco (+4.2%) and chemical (+3.9%).
