MONTH-ON-MONTH COMPARISON:
Exports
In April 2015, Malaysia’s export value recorded a decline of 9.2% to RM60.4 billion where the export volume index decreased 12.4% to 96.1 points. This was led by mineral fuels (-23.4%), inedible crude materials (-14.0%) and machinery & transport equipment (-11.0%).
Meanwhile, the export unit value index recorded a marginal increase of 0.1% to 136.9 points. This was mainly contributed by machinery & transport equipment, miscellaneous manufactured articles and manufactured goods all increasing by 0.1%.
Seasonally adjusted figure
In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index decreased 8.0% to 97.4 points.
Imports
In April 2015, Malaysia’s total import value registered a reduction of 8.8% to RM53.5 billion where the import volume index dropped 9.0% to 115.5 points. This was mainly attributed to mineral fuels (-25.6%), chemicals (-10.6%) and machinery & transport equipment (-6.8%).
Meanwhile, the import unit value index increased 0.2% to 130.1 points which was led by chemicals (+0.5%), machinery & transport equipment (+0.2%) and mineral fuels (+0.3%).
Seasonally adjusted figure
In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index in April 2015 decreased 7.8% to 114.1 points.
YEAR-ON-YEAR COMPARISON:
Exports
Malaysia’s export value decreased 8.8% from RM66.2 billion where the export volume index decreased 10.4% from 107.2 points, year-on-year basis. The decrease was mainly due to mineral fuels (-27.9%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-6.8%) and machinery & transport equipment (-2.8%).
Similarly, the export unit value index registered a decrease of 1.9% from 139.6 points which was led by mineral fuels (-15.9%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-13.0%) and inedible crude material (-7.0%).
Imports
In April 2015, the import value recorded a decline of 7.0% from RM57.5 billion where the import volume index decreased 6.4% from 123.4 points. The decrease was mainly due to mineral fuels (-29.0%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-10.2%) and chemicals (-9.0%).
The import unit value index also dropped 0.6% from 131.0 points. This was contributed by mineral fuels (-16.4%) and animal & vegetable oils & fats (-4.8%).
TERMS OF TRADE
In April 2015, Malaysia’s terms of trade decreased marginally by 0.1% to 105.2 points when compared with March 2015. The decrease was mainly registered in mineral fuels (-0.6%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-0.5%) and chemicals (-0.4%).
On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade registered a reduction of 1.3% from 106.6 points. The reduction was mainly recorded in animal & vegetable oils & fats (-8.6%), followed by inedible crude materials (-7.2%) and manufactured goods (-0.2%).
