Overview
The index of Distributive Trade rose by 5.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2015 as compared to the same quarter of 2014. The increase was contributed by positive growth in all sub-sectors: Wholesale Trade (9.0%), Retail Trade (2.6%) and Motor Vehicles (1.9%).
After seasonal adjustment, index of Distributive Trade edged up by 0.7 per cent due to the increase in Wholesale Trade (1.4%), Motor Vehicles (0.4%) and Retail Trade (0.1%) sub-sectors.

Performance of Wholesale Trade Sub-sector
The index of Wholesale Trade registered an increase of 9.0 per cent in the third quarter 2015 as compared to third quarter 2014. The increase was supported by Other Specialised Wholesale (18.2%), Wholesale of Agricultural Raw Materials and Live Animals (8.7%) and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis (6.2%).
Performance of Retail Trade Sub-sector
In the third quarter of 2015, the Retail Trade sub-sector grew by 2.6 per cent year-on-year. The growth was stimulated by Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (13.8%), Retail Sale of Information and Communications Equipment in Specialised Stores (5.5%) and Retail Trade via Stalls and Markets (5.0%).
Performance of Motor Vehicles Sub-sector
The index of Motor Vehicles which includes Parts and Accessories rose by 1.9 per cent in the third quarter 2015 as compared to the same quarter of 2014. The growth was boosted by Sale of Motor Vehicles (5.6%) and Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts and Accessories (1.2%).
