Overview

Export Unit Value Index in November 2022 saw a dip of 0.7 per cent and a marginal decrease of 0.01 per cent in Import Unit Value Index


EXPORT


The export unit value index decreased by 0.7 per cent in November 2022 as compared with the previous month, attributed from the declines in the index of animal & vegetable oils & fats(-6.8%), inedible crude materials (-1.5%) and mineral fuels (-0.6%). At the same time, export volume index also decreased by 0.4 per cent in the same month, in line with the declines in the index of mineral fuels (-23.6%) and manufactured goods (-3.1%). The seasonally adjusted export volume index rose 8.8 per cent from 153.3 points to 166.8 points.


On annual comparison, both export unit value and volume index grew 13.9 per cent and 1.5 per cent, respectively.

IMPORT


Import unit value index decreased marginally 0.01 per cent in November 2022, supported by the decline in the index of machinery & transport equipment (-1.3%), inedible crude materials (-0.6%) and manufactured goods (-0.2%). The import volume index also decreased 4.9 per cent in November 2022 as compared to the previous month, attributed by the declines in the index of mineral fuels (-28.7%), food (-2.1%) and machinery & transport equipment (-1.5%). The seasonally adjusted import volume index decreased by 5.2 per cent from 189.6 points to 179.7 points.


On a year-on-year basis, both the import unit value and volume indices rose 9.2 per cent and 5.8 per cent, respectively.

TERMS OF TRADE


Malaysia’s terms of trade showed a negative performance in November 2022, fell by 0.7 per cent month-on-month to 111.6 points as accordance to the declining in the index of animal & vegetable oils & fats (-6.5%), mineral fuels (-3.2%) and inedible crude materials (-0.9%). Malaysia’s terms of trade maintained a positive growth of 4.3 per cent year-on-year from 107.0 points in November of previous year.
