Malaysia’s Index of Industrial Production (IPI) increased by 3.4 per cent in October 2017

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose by 3.4 per cent in October 2017 compared to the same month of the previous year. The increase in October was driven by positive growth in all indices: Manufacturing (4.2%), Mining (0.8%) and Electricity (4.6%). 

The Manufacturing sector output grew moderately by 4.2 per cent in October 2017 after recording a growth of 5.7 per cent in September 2017. The major sub-sectors which contributed to the increase in October 2017 were: Electrical and Electronic Products (5.9%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (2.1%) and Food, Beverages and Tobacco Products (7.0%).

The Mining sector output increase by 0.8 per cent in October 2017 (September 2017: 2.1%). The growth in October 2017 was driven by an increase of 1.4 per cent in Natural Gas Index and 0.3 per cent in Crude Oil index. 

The Electricity sector output increase by 4.6 per cent in October 2017 on yearly basis.
