MALAYSIA’S AFFILIATES ABROAD IN 2015 RECORDED A TURNOVER OF RM300.2 BILLION

This publication presents statistics on Malaysia’s affiliates operating abroad for the year 2010-2015 and the first report made available to public by Department of Statistics. The statistics is compiled biennially which provides information on the number of affiliates, turnover, number of employees, compensation of employees and assets by kind of economic activities and countries.

The results showed that Malaysia has 2,125 affiliates operating in 84 countries in 2015. The Services based enterprises contributed 74.2 percent and followed by Manufacturing of 14.1 per cent and Agriculture of 4.8 per cent.

In terms of turnover, affiliates generated RM300.2 billion which mainly contributed by affiliates located in Indonesia, Singapore, United Kingdom, South Africa and China which contributed 55.5 per cent to total turnover. Services was the dominant sector of 62.2 per cent and Manufacturing of 24.1 per cent.

The number of persons employed by Malaysia’s outward affiliates accounted for 372,570 employees. They were mostly engaged in Services sector of 143,544 persons and Agriculture was 114,951 persons. Affiliates in Indonesia employed the highest number of employees 140,913 persons, whereby 67.4 per cent were involved in Agriculture sector.
