The Unit Price Index Of Building Materials
A monthly comparison by construction materials and selected areas, recorded a decrease in the unit price index for all areas of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
The unit price index of steel and steel & metal sections recorded a decrease of 2.0 per cent and 0.9 per cent as compared to August 2022.
However, the other building materials remained unchanged, such as plywood for all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak; roofing material for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia (except Johor), all areas in Sabah and Miri, Sarawak.
Meanwhile, a year-on-year comparison of the unit price index of building materials recorded an increase between 4.0 to 12.7 per cent in September 2022 as compared to a year ago. The unit price index for steel and steel & metal sections increased by 8.7 per cent and 8.3 per cent respectively in September 2022 as compared to September 2021.
Average Price of Selected Building Materials
A monthly comparison recorded a slight decrease on the average price of selected construction materials such as steel and cement as compared to August 2022.
The average price per unit of steel consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars is RM3,698.29 per metric ton, recording a 2.1 per cent decrease as compared to the previous month (August 2022: RM3,778.71 per metric ton). The average price of cement (Ordinary Portland) is RM20.82/50 kg, declined 0.6 per cent as compared to RM20.95/50 kg (August 2022).
An annual comparison showed that the average prices of steel and cement prices increased by 6.4 per cent and 10.1 per cent respectively.
