Overview

The Building Material Cost Index (without steel bars and with steel bars) for almost all categories of buildings in Peninsular Malaysia decreased while for Sarawak increased in June 2017 as compared to May 2017

 

Peninsular Malaysia

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for all categories of building in all regions decreased in June 2017 except for 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) in region F-Eastern, 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) in region D-Johor and (R.C.) piling in region D-Johor, E-Pahang and F-Eastern which remained unchange as compared to the previous month.

The BCI (with steel bars) for all categories of building in all regions are also decreased except for 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) in region E-Pahang and (R.C.) piling in region D-Johor and E-Pahang which remained unchange in June 2017 as compared to the previous month.

The unit price indices of building materials that showed changes (increase/decrease) in June 2017 as compared to the previous month are as follows:

 

                   

 

Sabah

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Sabah recorded increases for almost all building categories in Tawau in June 2017. Meanwhile the BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan remained unchange as compared to the previous month.

The BCI (with steel bars) in Sabah showed decreases for almost all building categories except for single storey (R.C.) building, 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) and single storey steel frame (tower only) in Tawau which showed increases of 0.1 per cent as compared to the previous month.

The changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sabah are shown in Table 2.

 

                                 

 

Sarawak

The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Kuching and Miri increased for several categories of buildings in June 2017. Meanwhile the BCI in Sibu remained unchange as compared to the previous month.

A = Pulau Pinang, Kedah and Perlis
B = Perak
C = Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor
D = Johor
E = Pahang
F = Kelantan and Terengganu
