The Unit Price Index of Building Materials
- The unit price index of steel recorded a decrease in November 2025, ranging from negative 0.1 per cent to negative 3.2 per cent as compared to the previous month. The highest decrease was observed in Miri (-3.2%), followed by Kota Kinabalu (-3.1%) and Pahang (-0.8%).
- The unit price index of steel & metal sections showed a slight decrease in November 2025, with month-on-month change ranging from negative 0.1 per cent to negative 3.0 per cent in all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Meanwhile, the unit price index of cement remained unchanged in all areas except a slight increase in the index for Pahang (2.6%), Perak (1.9%) and Kuching (-0.9%).
- An annual comparison for the period of November 2024 and November 2025 has indicated that the unit price index for steel recorded a decline ranging from negative 2.7 per cent to negative 7.9 per cent involving most areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest decrease in the unit price index for steel was observed in Kota Kinabalu (-7.9%) and followed by Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis and Sibu (-7.5%), respectively.
- Nevertheless, the year-on-year comparison of the unit price index of cement increased between 0.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent in November 2025 as compared to the same month last year across all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase was observed in Pahang (4.5%) followed by Tawau (3.9%), and Sandakan (3.5%).
Average Price of Selected Building Materials
- Average price per unit of steel, consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars, recorded a slight decrease of 0.9 per cent with an average price of RM3,509.60 per metric tonne as compared to the previous month (October 2025: RM3,540.70 per metric tonne).
- The average price of Ordinary Portland cement showed a slight increase (1.4%) with an average price of RM24.35 per 50 kg bag, as compared to October 2025 (RM24.00 per 50 kg bag).
